Entrepreneurs: Counselling and monitoring guides

These guides are for business persons who have been issued permanent resident visas and who come to Canada as entrepreneurs.

Important Notice:
 
As of December 1, 2011, permanent residents in the entrepreneur class are no longer required to submit to CIC the Mail-In Card for Entrepreneurs (IMM 5548), Entrepreneur Monitoring Report, Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IMM 5486) and the Application to Remove Entrepreneur Conditions (IMM 5547), unless specifically requested by a CIC official.
 
Note: It is important that you keep any evidence or documents proving you comply with the terms and conditions. You should keep this as long as you are a permanent resident as CIC may request it.

Please Note: On June 28, 2002 Canada passed new immigration legislation called the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Make sure that you look at the guide that applies to you.

  • Entrepreneurs Immigrating to Canada under the 1976 Immigration Act:
    You will want to look at the Entrepreneur Counselling and Monitoring Guide, 1976 Act if conditions 70, 72 or 73 are listed on your permanent resident document. You have two years to meet your conditions of permanent residence.

  • Entrepreneurs immigrating to Canada under the 2002 Immigration and Refugee Protection Act:
    You will want to look at the Entrepreneur Counselling and Monitoring Guide, IRPA if conditions 74, 75 or 76 are listed on your permanent resident document. You have three years to meet your conditions of permanent residence.
