Resettlement from Outside Canada: Arriving - Settlement Assistance

As a newcomer to Canada, settlement assistance is available to you. These programs and services are designed to help you participate in Canadian society as quickly as possible.

You may receive various government settlement services when you arrive at a point of entry and at your final destination in Canada. These services can include counseling and cultural orientation, loans to help you travel to Canada, reception, information and orientation, referral to community resources, translation and interpretation, language training, and job-related services.

Eligibility requirements vary, depending on the program. If you were sponsored as a refugee, contact your sponsoring organization to find out about settlement assistance. You can also get information on settlement assistance by contacting a service organization directly. You can find a list of service organizations in the Related Links section at the bottom of this page.
