Permanent Resident Card: After applying

Please note: The Permanent Resident (PR) Card processing centre is experiencing higher than usual processing times. For up-to-date information, see our section on Application Processing Times.

If you require your PR card urgently, please follow the instructions.

You can check the status of your application online or by contacting the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre.

You can also read the service standard for an initial PR Card. This details the specific level of service you can expect to receive under normal circumstances.

If your application is complete and you meet the requirements for permanent resident status, you will receive a letter telling you where to pick up your Permanent Resident Card in person.

When you pick up your card, you must provide proof of your identity. Please bring with you the original versions of the documents you sent with your application.

If your application is incomplete, it will be returned to you with a letter telling you what information you still need to provide or fees to pay.

Add the missing information or fees described in the letter and return your application to CIC for processing. If you do not provide all the required information or fees, your application will be returned again with all other information and fees that you have sent. This will further delay the processing of your application.
