How and where do I obtain one?
If you live in Ecuador
You should obtain the Certificado de Antecedentes Personales by presenting yourself at the Archivo Central de la Policía Nacional located at Avenida Amazonas y Roca, Edificio Rio Amazonas, First Floor. You are required to present the following:
- your National Identity Card (Cédula de Identidad) (for Ecuadorians and non-national residents of Ecuador);
- your original passport (for non-nationals);
- one color photograph, size 35x45 mm; and
- the processing fee of $5 USD payable in cash.

If you live outside Ecuador
You should obtain the Certificado de Antecedentes Personales by obtaining a “power of attorney” authenticated by the Embassy or Consulate of Ecuador in your country of residence. You must give your representative residing in Ecuador to complete the application on your behalf.
Your representative must present the “power of attorney” at the Archivo Central de la Policía Nacional located at Avenida Amazonas y Roca, Edificio Rio Amazonas, First Floor. This power of attorney must include:
- a photocopy of the your national identity card and passport bio data page;
- a photocopy of the national identity card or passport bio data page of your representative;
- one color photograph of you, size 35x45 mm; and
- the processing fee of $5 USD payable in cash.
