Community Historical Recognition Program

The Community Historical Recognition Program (CHRP), part of the Citizenship and Multiculturalism Branch, funds community-based commemorative and educational projects that provide recognition of the experiences of ethno-cultural communities affected by historical wartime measures and/or immigration restrictions applied in Canada, and that promote these communities’ contributions to building Canada. The CHRP is scheduled to end on March 31, 2013.

Projects related to historical wartime measures or immigration restrictions

Eligible organizations with a mandate relevant to, or a demonstrated partnership or link with, communities affected by wartime measures and immigration restrictions can apply for funding from the CHRP.

Call for Proposals

The CHRP’s third and last Call for Proposals closed on April 1, 2010. New applications are no longer being accepted.

Projects related to the First World War internment

In May 2008, the Canadian First World War Internment Recognition Fund was established with funding from the CHRP to support projects which commemorate and recognize the experiences of ethno-cultural communities affected by First World War internment. The Fund is managed by the Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko. A multilateral committee representing affected communities makes decisions on projects to be funded.
