Language instruction

The Government of Canada sponsors free language instruction for all eligible adult newcomers who want or need basic training in English or French.

This program is often called Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) or CLIC (Cours de langue pour les immigrants au Canada) in French.

The classes are delivered by school boards, colleges and local immigrant-serving organizations.

In some regions, you may choose between studying full time, part time, on evenings or on weekends. LINC and CLIC also provide transportation and care for your children if you need these services.

Finding a LINC or CLIC Assessment Centre

Your local immigrant serving organization can direct you to a LINC Assessment Centre. The centre will find out how well you speak English or French and then refer you to organizations that offer LINC or CLIC classes.
