Northwest Territories

The Northwest Territories (NWT) has a great future based on its natural resource industries. Newcomers to the NWT will find good jobs and economic opportunities now and in the future.

Our small population of 43,000 people live in 33 communities throughout the NWT. Wide open spaces, excellent government services and many opportunities to work and do business make the NWT a special place in Canada to work and live.

Newcomers may hear "welcome to the Northwest Territories" in many different languages. Our government recognizes 11 official languages, most of them spoken by Aboriginal peoples in the NWT. Newcomers from all over the world who are looking for great opportunities will find them in the NWT.
