Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program General Test (CELPIP-G)

Your test date: On or before March 31, 2014

To apply for Canadian citizenship, your results need to be:

2H or higher (3L, 3H, 4L, 4H, 5L, or 5H) in listening and speaking

If your results are high enough, include a copy of your test results (even if they’re expired) with your citizenship application.

If you lost or need a copy of your results, contact CELPIP.

If your results are not high enough, find other language proof you can submit.

English CELPIP-G test on or after April 1, 2014 (CELPIP-G)

4 or higher (up to 12) in listening and speaking

If your results are high enough, include a copy of your test results (even if they’re expired) with your citizenship application.

If your results are not high enough, find other language proof you can submit.

English IELTS general test on or before November 27, 2008

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) General Training

Your test date: On or before November 27, 2008

To apply for Canadian citizenship, your results need to be:

4.0 or higher in listening and speaking

If your results are high enough, include a copy of your test results (even if they’re expired) with your citizenship application.

If you lost or need a copy of your results, contact IELTS.

If your results are not high enough, find other language proof you can submit.

English IELTS general test on or after November 28, 2008

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) General Training

Your test date: On or after November 28, 2008

To apply for Canadian citizenship, your results need to be:

  • Listening: 4.5 or higher
  • Speaking: 4.0 or higher

If your results are high enough, include a copy of your test results (even if they’re expired) with your citizenship application.

If you lost or need a copy of your results, contact IELTS.

If your results are not high enough, find other language proof you can submit.

English IELTS academic test

We only accept IELTS General Training for citizenship applications
