Ensuring privacy

Privacy protection is a primary consideration for the Government of Canada in the implementation of biometrics in the immigration program. A comprehensive privacy impact assessment has been developed, and work is ongoing in collaboration with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner to ensure that all privacy issues are fully addressed in accordance with Canada’s privacy legislation.

Clear privacy notices will inform applicants how, and to what extent, their personal information will be used and kept. A recourse process will allow applicants to address any concerns they have regarding the accuracy of their information. Technological safeguards will be in place to ensure that client information is collected, stored and transmitted securely.
