Backgrounder - $38 million to help newcomers in Halton and Peel

The Halton and Peel Regions in Ontario are two of the fastest growing immigrant communities in Canada. To help newcomers settle into these communities, the Government of Canada is committing funding of about $38 million over the next two and a half years to 15 agencies in the region to provide services under the Immigrant and Settlement Adaptation Program (ISAP).

The funding is provided under the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement (COIA). Service providers across Ontario receive funding through COIA. Listed below are the 15 agencies in the Halton and Peel Region receiving a portion of the $38 million in today’s announcement:

  • Afghan Women’s Counseling and Integration Community Support Organization: $367,818
  • African Community Services of Peel: $621,421
  • Brampton Multicultural Community Centre: $5,156,966
  • Brampton Neighbourhood Resource Centre: $2,472,003
  • Catholic Cross Cultural Services: $4,605,165
  • Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre: $4,536,996
  • Centre for Skills Development and Training, Halton District School Board: $846,213
  • Halton Multicultural Council: $3,989,262
  • India Rainbow Community Services of Peel: $2,575,264
  • Inter-cultural Neighbourhood Social Services: $3,259,793
  • Malton Neighbourhood Services: $1,366,520
  • Peel Adult Learning Centre: $2,885,353
  • Peel Multicultural Council: $235,221
  • Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services: $1,396,832
  • Quality Continuous Improvement Centre for Community Education and Training: $3,589,360

The following agencies – the Centre for Skills Development and Training, Halton District School Board; the Peel Adult Learning Centre; and the Peel Multicultural Council – will be first time-providers of ISAP services in the region.
