Backgrounder - Announcement of settlement funding to help newcomers settle in Calgary

Calgary is home to one of the fastest growing immigrant communities in Alberta. To help newcomers settle into these communities, the Government of Canada is committing funding of $16,526,565 to 12 agencies in the region to provide services under the Language Instruction to Canada Program.

Service providers across Alberta receive funding through this program. Listed below are the 12 agencies in the Calgary area that will receive a portion of the funds announced today.

  • YWCA of Calgary:  $797,316
  • YMCA of Calgary:  $398,650
  • Immigrant Services Calgary (Immigrant Language and Vocational Assessment-Referral Centre):  $1,561,860
  • Centre for Newcomers:  $1,722,740
  • Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association:  $1,010,220
  • Calgary Immigrant Educational Society :  $2,246,967
  • Chinook Learning Services Calgary Board of Education:  $895,137
  • Columbia College:  $142,957
  • AGAPE:  $150,555
  • Maple Leaf Academy:  $2,902,593
  • Bow Valley College:  $3,038,723
  • Calgary Catholic Immigration Society:  $1,658,847
