Backgrounder - Settlement funding to help newcomers settle in Durham Region

The Government of Canada wants to help newcomers succeed. To help newcomers settle in Durham Region, the Government of Canada is committing almost $6 million, through to 2010, to six agencies to provide settlement services.

The funding is provided under the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement (COIA). Listed below are the six agencies receiving funding in today’s announcement:

  • Community Development Council Durham:  $1,725,993
  • Northern Lights Canada:  $222,824
  • Women’s Multicultural Resource and Counselling Centre of Durham:  $211,433
  • Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre:  $668,851
  • Durham District School Board:  $2,147,836
  • Durham Catholic District School Board:  $768,968
