Backgrounder - Announcement of settlement funding to help newcomers in Calgary

The Government of Canada wants to help newcomers to Canada succeed. To make language training more accessible for newcomers, the Government is committing close to $9.5 million to nine organizations in Calgary.

Organizations receiving funding in today’s announcement are:

These organizations are just nine of many settlement organizations in Calgary that have partnered with Citizenship and Immigration Canada to address the needs of newcomers to Canada.

The Government of Canada recognizes that language training and settlement services are an essential part of the federal immigration program. In 2006, the Government of Canada began investing an additional $1.4 billion over five years in settlement funding in provinces and territories outside Quebec. Quebec has responsibility for settlement services through the Canada-Quebec Accord.
