How can I listen to an audio file?

To listen to an audio file, select:

  • the “Play” icon (black triangle) on the left hand side of the grey player bar, or
  • an alternate file format (QuickTime, WindowsMedia or MP3) to play the file in the media player of your choice.

I am trying to listen to an audio file, but I do not hear anything. Why?

If you are having difficulties in hearing the audio guide, please check the following:

  1. Make sure your computer has a soundcard.
    If you have ever listened to music or heard sounds coming out of your speakers, you have a soundcard. If you do not have a soundcard, you will not be able to listen to the audio guide.
  2. Verify that your speakers are properly connected and turned on.
  3. Check that the volume control is set properly on your computer and on your speakers.
  4. Verify that you have a media player.
  5. Verify that your browser has the ability to play sound.

What do mov, mva and mp3 mean?

mov files
To listen to .mov audio files, you need to download and install QuickTime media player.

How do I download (save) an audio file?

Before you start downloading, you may want to create a new folder on your computer where you can save the audio file(s).

For PC users:

  1. Right-click on the audio format of your choice (QuickTime, Windows Media, or MP3)
  2. Select “Save Target As” or "Save Link As”
  3. Choose the location on your computer where you would like to save the file
  4. Select “Save”

For Mac users:

  1. Press the Control (ctrl) key and click on the audio format of your choice (QuickTime, Windows Media, or MP3)
  2. When the option menu appears, choose "Download link to disk" or "Download linked file."
  3. Choose the location on your computer where you would like to store the file.  Your computer will start the download once you have selected a location.

For instructions, select your browser from this list:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options.
  2. Select Security tab.
  3. Select Custom Level.
  4. Scroll down to Scripting:
    1. under Active Scripting select Enable
    2. under Scripting for Java Applets select Enable
  5. Click OK on the Security Settings window.
  6. Click OK on the Internet Options window.

After changing your browser settings, close your browser for the new settings to take effect.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options.
  2. Select Security tab.
  3. Select Custom Level.
  4. Scroll down to Scripting:
    1. under Active Scripting select Enable
    2. under Scripting of Java Applets select Enable

Enabling Java and JavaScript

  1. Select Preferences from the Edit menu.
  2. Select Advanced tab.
  3. Select Enable Java.
  4. Select Scripts & Plugins. (If you don't see any subcategories, double-click Advanced to expand the list.)
  5. Select Enable JavaScript for Navigator.
  6. Click OK.

After changing your browser settings, close your browser for the new settings to take effect.

Mozilla Firefox 1.5

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Select Content (globe icon).
  3. Select Enable Java.
  4. Select Enable JavaScript.

Safari 1.2

Enabling Java and JavaScript

  1. Select Preferences from the Safari menu.
  2. Select Security tab.
  3. Where it says "Web Content" select the following:
    • Enable plug-ins
    • Enable Java
    • Enable JavaScript
