January 13, 2010 — The Government of Canada expresses its sympathy and support for Haiti and its people following the recent earthquake near Port-au-Prince.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is working closely with Foreign Affairs and International Trade, as well as other federal departments, to monitor the situation and help those in need.

The earthquake and aftershocks have resulted in the collapse of several buildings in Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas. The Embassy of Canada has been affected and services are limited. CIC is currently working with its partners to provide assistance to Canadians in the area, and then to resume visa and immigration services as soon as possible.
