News Release - Minister Finley announces citizenship judge appointment

Ottawa, January 31, 2008 — The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, today announced the appointment of B. Gail Degroot as a citizenship judge in Windsor, Ontario, for a three-year part-time term.

Prior to her appointment, Judge Degroot was a Public Member of Council for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. From 1989 to 1999, she held various positions in sales and accounts receivable management for major companies and organizations in the private sector. She has also been an active member of her community through her involvement in several committees and boards, such as the Windsor Symphony Orchestra Development Committee, the Iona College board and the Newcastle Social Planning Committee.

Citizenship judges are responsible for making decisions with regard to citizenship applications, presiding over citizenship ceremonies and administering the oath of citizenship to new citizens.
