News Release - 2008 Citation for Citizenship: call for nominations
Ottawa, March 26, 2008 — The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, today announced a call for nominations for the Citation for Citizenship to honour Canadians for their outstanding contributions in assisting newcomers to successfully integrate into Canadian society.
“Canada is fortunate to have many dedicated people working to help immigrants adapt to their new surroundings,” said Minister Finley. “This award recognizes their contributions in building a better Canada, both socially and economically.”
The Citation recognizes living Canadians from the voluntary, private or public sectors for their volunteer contributions to the integration of newcomers or for actively promoting Canadian citizenship.
The citations, consisting of a gold maple leaf pin and a certificate signed by the Minister, will be presented at special ceremonies to be held in the recipients’ communities during Canada’s Citizenship Week, October 13–19, 2008.
