News Release – Minister Kenney announces citizenship judge appointment

Ottawa, October 26, 2009 — Renée Giroux has been appointed as a citizenship judge for a three–year full–time term in Montreal, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today.

Prior to her appointment, Judge Giroux served as a deputy clerk and a legal attaché in the Quebec Justice Department, and worked closely with Quebec Superior Court judges. She holds a certificate in Marketing Management from HEC Montréal and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal, and she completed the Programme de formation professionnelle at the École du Barreau du Québec in Montréal. Judge Giroux has also been active in her community through her volunteer work at Info Crime Québec.

Citizenship judges are responsible for making decisions with regard to citizenship applications, presiding over citizenship ceremonies and administering the oath of citizenship to new citizens.
