News Release – Minister Kenney announces Citizenship Judge appointment
Ottawa, December 17, 2009 — George Khouri has been appointed Citizenship Judge in Scarborough, Ontario, for a three-year part-time term, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today.
Prior to his appointment, Judge Khouri was a business leader, having distinguished himself as past President of the Clarington Board of Trade, past Chair of the Whitby Fair Merchants Association, member of the Bowmanville Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Harvest Ball Committee and the Ajax Rotary Club.
He is recognized for fundraising for the Whitby General Hospital and for his corporate sponsorship of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, and for successfully organizing local environmental projects. Mr. Khouri is fluent in English, French, and Arabic.
Citizenship judges are responsible for making decisions with regard to citizenship applications, presiding over citizenship ceremonies and administering the oath of citizenship to new citizens.
