News Release – Minister Kenney announces new Citizenship Judge appointment

Ottawa, April 23, 2010 — Today, Marcel Tremblay has been appointed as a Citizenship Judge in Montreal for a three–year part-time term, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced.

Prior to his appointment, Judge Tremblay held a number of positions within the City of Montreal, most recently at the Société de transport de Montréal, where he was a member of the Board of Directors and chair of the Audit Committee. Judge Tremblay served as a city councillor for the Montreal borough of Notre–Dame–de–Grâce, and was a member of the City of Montreal’s Executive Committee. During his time as City Councillor, he served as an advisor to the Mayor regarding ethnocultural community relations. He has also served as a school principal, and as Quebec director of the fitness and healthy-living organization ParticipACTION.

Citizenship judges are responsible for making decisions with regard to citizenship applications, presiding over citizenship ceremonies and administering the oath of citizenship to new citizens.
