News Release – Government of Canada supports Afrikadey! Black History Month Celebration in Calgary, Alberta

Calgary, February 8, 2011 – Devinder Shory, Member of Parliament for Calgary Northeast today announced support for the Afrikadey! Black History Month Celebration taking place at various locations throughout Calgary.

By supporting celebrations like this one, we help people from various cultural backgrounds to showcase their diversity and help them to integrate into Canada,” said MP Shory on behalf of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.

The Inter-Action program aims to create opportunities for different cultural and faith communities to build bridges,” added MP Shory.

The Afrikadey! Arts and Culture Society of Calgary is receiving $9,000 for the event under Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s new Inter-Action program.

The festival includes many activities such as concerts, talent shows, a black history symposium and a skating party. It will take place February 9 to 26, 2011 throughout Calgary and is open to the public. Please visit the festival’s website at www.afrikadey.com for more information.
