News Release – Government of Canada supports 2011 Black History Month Celebration in Oakville, Ontario

Oakville, February 11, 2011 — Terrence Young, Member of Parliament for Oakville, today announced support for Black History Month celebrations taking place throughout Oakville, Ontario.

“Festivals such as this one are a great opportunity for Oakville’s multicultural community to showcase their diverse background,” said M.P. Young on behalf of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.

The Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton is receiving $5,575 for the event under Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s Inter-Action program.

“Our government is proud to deliver funding to bring together people from various cultural backgrounds to celebrate our shared values, history and institutions,” added M.P. Young.

The festival will take place from February 3^rd to 28 at various locations in Oakville and is open to the public. Activities will include concerts, storytelling, and an educational workshop. In addition, two exhibits will take place at the same time as the celebration: an exhibit on the Underground Railroad at the Oakville Museum and an exhibition of African-Canadian artists at the Oakville Town Hall. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
