Statement - Minister Kenney makes a statement on the Lunar New Year

Ottawa, January 26, 2009 — The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, issued the following statement recognizing the Lunar New Year.

For many people of Asian heritage living in Canada, the Lunar New Year is a time to reflect on the past and look optimistically to the future. It is also a time to recognize good fortune, honour ancestors and celebrate with family and the community.

For all Canadians, the Lunar New Year provides an excellent opportunity to think about the tremendous contributions that members of the Asian communities have made to this country’s rich and diverse heritage.

This year,we enter the Year of the Ox. The Ox is a symbol of prosperity through hard work, and those born in the Year of the Ox are said to be dependable, patient and intelligent.

As Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I hope the Year of the Ox brings everyone health, wealth and good fortune.
