Strategic Outcomes and
Program Activity Architecture

Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s three strategic outcomes describe the long–term results that the Department’s programs are designed to achieve. The Department’s Program Activity Architecture, following, provides an inventory of departmental programs and activities, and describes their linkages to the three strategic outcomes. It also provides the foundation for financial and performance reporting to Parliament.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada will be updating its strategic outcomes and Program Activity Architecture in 2009‑2010 to include the addition of the Multiculturalism portfolio that was transferred from the Department of Canadian Heritage in October 2008.

Strategic Outcome 1

Migration that significantly benefits Canada’s economic, social and cultural development, while protecting the health, safety and security of Canadians

Strategic Outcome 2

International recognition and acceptance of the principles of managed migration consistent with Canada’s broader foreign policy agenda, and protection of refugees in Canada

  • Program Activity 3 – Canada’s Role in International Migration and Protection
  • Program Activity 4 – Refugees Program

Strategic Outcome 3

Successful integration of newcomers into society and promotion of Canadian citizenship
