How can I get my immigration application processed faster?

The length of time it takes to process an application varies. It depends on where you applied and your situation. You can avoid unnecessary delays by:

  • including all the necessary information with your application (use the document checklist in the application package);
  • contacting the visa office (if you are outside Canada) or online (if you are in Canada) to notify us of any changes to the personal information on your application, such as changes to
    • your address,
    • your phone number,
    • your fax number or
    • your family situation;
  • ensuring the photocopies and documents you provide are clear;
  • providing certified English or French translations of original documents that you submit in other languages; and
  • applying from your country of nationality or the country in which you are present and have been legally admitted.

Processing of your immigration application may be delayed for many reasons, some of which may include:

  • there are criminal or security problems related to it;
  • your family situation is unclear because of issues such as
    • a divorce,
    • an incomplete adoption
    • unresolved child custody issues; or
  • the office has to consult with other Citizenship and Immigration Canada offices in Canada or abroad.

To avoid such delays, please ensure you are completely truthful on your application and that you include any and all documentation relevant to your application.
