Will I get my PR card by mail?
I am a new permanent resident living inside Canada
Yes. If you are a new permanent resident, you will get your permanent resident card by mail.
I am already a permanent resident living inside Canada
On April 30, 2012, CIC implemented a one-year pilot project to mail permanent resident cards directly to most applicants. However, some permanent residents will still be required to pick up their PR card at the local CIC office as part of a quality assurance exercise. In this case, CIC staff will contact you to schedule an appointment for you to come in and pick up your PR card. If you cannot go to your appointment to pick up your card, you will be able to reschedule your appointment by contacting the office that is processing your PR card. If you do not pick up the card at the local office within 180 days, the card will be destroyed and you will have to re-apply.
