Do privately sponsored refugees get resettlement help from the government?

In most cases, privately sponsored refugees get financial help from their sponsors, not the government.

Privately sponsored refugees arrive in Canada as permanent residents. They can get the same settlement support services as other permanent residents. Services funded under the Settlement Program include language training.

In some cases, the government helps fund the initial cost of resettlement of privately sponsored refugees (under the Joint Assistance Sponsorship Program or a blended initiative). As well, privately sponsored refugees and their sponsors may have access to some of the services provided to direct Resettlement Assistance Program clients.
