Can I apply for a work permit when I enter Canada?
Yes, you can apply for a work permit when you enter Canada if you:
- do not need a temporary resident visa, and
- do not need a document from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada authorizing your employer to hire you (known as a Labour Market Opinion, or LMO) or
- your employer already has a Labour Market Opinion authorizing them to hire you.
An officer will make sure you meet all the requirements before you are allowed to enter Canada.
To apply for a work permit when you enter Canada, you must bring:
- a current job offer or contract,
- a document from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada authorizing your employer to hire you (known as a Labour Market Opinion, or LMO) or proof that you do not need one,
- proof that you have the required qualifications and experience, and
- a valid passport or other travel document.
If you want to work in the province of Quebec, you also need:
- a Certificat d'acceptation du Québec from the Ministère de l'Immigration et des Communautés culturelles.
