How do I hire a temporary foreign worker?
There are three basic steps for hiring a temporary foreign worker.
- Find out if you need to apply for a Labour Market Opinion (or LMO, a document an employer must usually get before they are allowed to hire a foreign worker). See Who Can Apply for information on Labour Market Opinions and then apply at Service Canada, if needed.
- Have the foreign worker complete the work permit application.
- The worker will receive an authorization letter when their work permit has been approved. The actual work permit is issued by a border services officer at the point of entry when the foreign worker arrives in Canada.
