Who must be included on my permanent residence application if I am a live-in caregiver?
You must declare your spouse (if applicable) and all dependent children in your application for permanent resident status in Canada, whether they are accompanying you to Canada or not. For you to become a permanent resident, all of these family members must pass a medical exam and background checks even if they are not coming to Canada.
You will likely not need to get a medical exam as part of your application. If you do need one, we will send you instructions on medical exams after you send your application.
If you and your declared family members meet all the requirements, you will get your permanent resident status. As the principal applicant, you must be granted permanent resident status first, before any of your accompanying dependants can proceed to Canada.
Once you have been granted permanent resident status, the visa office will issue permanent residence visas to the dependants you have requested to accompany you to Canada so they may enter as permanent residents.
