Will I get my processing fees back if I withdraw my sponsorship application?

It depends on where your application is in the process.

  • If your sponsorship assessment has not yet started when you withdraw your application, you will receive a full refund.
  • If your sponsorship assessment has been started when you withdraw your application, the C$75 sponsorship fee will be kept and the remainder of the fees will be refunded.
  • If your sponsorship assessment has been completed, but CIC has not begun processing the application for the person you are sponsoring, when you withdraw your application, the C$75 sponsorship fee will be kept and the remainder of the fees will be refunded.
  • If your sponsorship assessment has been completed and CIC has started to process the application for the person you are sponsoring when you withdraw your application, only the Right of Permanent Residence Fee will be refunded (if applicable).

If you decide to withdraw your sponsorship application, you must:

  • contact the Case Processing Centre – Mississauga at CPCM-EXTCOM@cic.gc.ca, and
  • mail, e-mail or fax a signed withdrawal request to the processing office, including the following information:
    • client ID (if available);
    • name;
    • date of birth;
    • address;
    • date sent;
    • type of application;
    • the reason for the withdrawal;
    • a copy of the e-Payment receipt or a copy of both sides of the HPM receipt (IMM 5401); and
  • write  "Withdrawal of Application" on the envelope;

Note: For sponsorship applications, client ID, name, and date of birth must be provided for both the sponsor and the principal applicant.
