Are the fees the same for an adopted child for the permanent residence and citizenship processes?
No. The fees for permanent residence and citizenship applications differ. The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Citizenship Act also use different age ranges for their fees.
Immigration
If, when applying, the adopted person is under 22:
- the sponsorship fee is C$75; and
- the processing fee is C$75.
If, when applying, the adopted person is over 22:
- the sponsorship fee is C$75; and
- the processing fee is C$475.
Citizenship
If, when applying, the adopted person is a minor (under 18):
- the processing fee is C$100.
If, when applying, the adopted person is an adult (18 and over):
- the processing fee is C$100; and
- the right of citizenship fee is C$100.
