What third-party tests will CIC accept as proof I have adequate knowledge of English or French when I apply for citizenship?
A third-party test is a test done by an organization that is not CIC. CIC will accept it as proof of your language ability if it is from one of the following organizations:
- CELPIP General (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program General test) or
- CELPIP General-LS - a two-skills (listening and speaking) version of the CELPIP General test; or
- IELTS - General training - General training (International English Language Testing System); or
- Test d'Évaluation de Français (TEF);
- Test d'Évaluation de Français (TEFAQ) or TEF épreuves orales – a two-skills (listening and speaking) version of the TEF.
If you have previously sent third-party language test results to CIC or the Ministère de l’Immigration et Communautés culturelles Québec (MICC) with your application as a Federal Skilled Worker, a Quebec-selected Skilled Worker or a Canadian Experience Class applicant, you can send that test result with your citizenship application.
