How will I know when nationals of my country will need to have biometric screening?

CIC will begin to collect biometric information from temporary resident applicants on a voluntary basis starting in May 2013. CIC proposes that biometric screening be phased in over several months and become mandatory for applicants between September and December 2013.

CIC will post regular updates on this website to confirm when nationals of your country will have to give this information. Notices will also be put up at visa offices and visa application centres.

By the end of December 2013, it will be mandatory for all temporary resident applicants who are nationals of these countries and territories to have their fingerprints and photograph taken when they apply for a temporary resident visa, study permit or work permit.
