Can I keep working as a live-in caregiver if my work permit has expired?
It is illegal to work in Canada without a work permit. However, if you have applied to extend your work permit, you can keep working under the same conditions (such as working for the same employer) until we decide on your renewal application and notifies you. This is known as having implied status.
You should apply to extend your work permit at least 30 days before it expires. Consult our current processing times to find out when you are likely to receive your new work permit.
