This application package is for Canadian citizens and permanent residents who wish to sponsor:

  • a spouse, common-law or conjugal partner; or
  • dependent children.

This sponsorship package includes three parts:

  • Part 1: The sponsorship application
    You, the sponsor, must fill out the sponsorship forms. Use the checklist provided (IMM5491) to make sure all the right forms are filled out and you have gathered the proper documents to support your application.
  • Part 2: The application for permanent residence
    The person you are sponsoring and any family members included in the application must fill out the immigration forms. You, the sponsor, can send the forms to them or have them print the forms from this page.
  • Part 3: The region specific forms
    The person you are sponsoring must fill out the forms specific to their region. They should use the checklist from the information guide specific to their region (Appendix A) to make sure they fill out all the right forms. You, the sponsor, can send them the forms or have them print the forms from this page.

After the person you are sponsoring has filled out all the sponsorship, immigration and region specific forms, they must send them to you with the supporting documents.

Note: As of February 6, 2012, sponsors and applicants for Permanent Residence are asked to complete both the new Application to sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking (IMM 1344) form and the Generic Application Form for Canada (IMM 0008). Sponsors and applicants are encouraged to complete the forms electronically and validate the information to generate 2D barcodes before printing. How to use this application package

Read the instruction guide to complete your application forms

  • Use the new Application to sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking (IMM 1344) form and Generic Application Form for Canada (IMM 0008). They can be completed and saved on a computer. You will need Adobe Reader 8.1 or higher.
  • Filling out the forms electronically is easier and reduces the risk of errors that can slow down the application process.
  • Trouble downloading? Right-click on the link and select ‘Save Target As...’

Complete, validate, print, sign and date your application forms

To ensure you submit all the pages of each form:

IMM 1344 and IMM 0008:

  1. Click on the “Validate” button at the top or bottom of the form.

    Note: Validating the form before printing ensures you have answered all the questions and will avoid delays in processing your application.

  2. A last page with barcodes and a signature line will automatically be created.
  3. Print, sign and date the form.
    • Print on white, bond-quality and non-glossy paper
    • Use of a laser printer is recommended
  4. Place the barcode page on the top of each individual package.

Pay the fees

You have two options to pay fees:

  1. Pay your fees online (preferred option).
  2. Pay your fees at a financial institution in Canada.
    You will need an original receipt mailed to you, which can take two to three weeks.

Mail your fully completed application to the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
