Applying as a member of the family class
This application is for persons who wish to be re-united with close family
members in Canada. A Canadian citizen or permanent resident must sponsor
family class immigrants. This person can sponsor:
- parents or grandparents;
- an orphaned close family member;
- an adopted child or a child to be adopted in Canada.
Note: Canada’s citizenship law was amended to allow Canadian citizens
who adopt a child from a foreign country the option of applying for
Canadian citizenship for their adopted child without first having to
apply for permanent residence. An application
for Canadian Citizenship for a person adopted by a Canadian citizen
(after February 14, 1977) is available. Adopted persons who are
adults may apply for themselves.
The person in Canada must first submit a sponsorship. For more information
on the sponsorship process, refer to the Application to Sponsor.
Your sponsor should advise you once your sponsorship has been processed
and send you a Family Class application. You must submit your completed
Family Class application to the Canadian visa office that will serve you.
Check the list of countries and
Visa Offices to find out where you must submit your application.
Some of the documents are available to you in Portable Document Format (PDF). This is a universal file format that allows you to read, print or download an online document while maintaining the fonts, graphics and general layout of that document. To view a PDF document, you must have a PDF reader installed. If you do not already have such a reader, there are numerous PDF readers available for free download or for purchase on the Internet.
