Application for permanent residence in Canada —
Spouse or common-law partner
This application is for spouses or common-law partners of Canadian citizens
or permanent residents who wish to apply for permanent residence while
both the sponsor and the applicant are residing in Canada.
Mail the application to the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta.
Some of the documents are available to you in Portable Document Format (PDF). To view a PDF document, you must have a PDF reader installed. If you do not already have such a reader, there are numerous PDF readers available for free download or for purchase on the Internet.

an order for an application if you need it mailed. Be certain that
you need this application before placing an order. The delivery of this
application may take several weeks. The original receipt form (IMM 5401)
will be included and does not have to be ordered separately.

You have two options to obtain a fees receipt:
- Payment of fees on the Internet
If you have Adobe® Acrobat Reader software, a printer, and a Visa,
MasterCard or American Express credit card, you can pay
your fees online.
- Payment of fees at a financial institution in Canada
If you cannot or do not wish to pay online, you must obtain an
original receipt form IMM 5401 in order to pay at a financial
institution. This form is not available on the website because
an original receipt with a unique serial number must be used.
You may order an original receipt by mail.
