Application fees

If you are applying at an office in Canada

Note: If you are a federal skilled worker, federal investor, Quebec-selected skilled worker or provincial nominee applicant, you must send payment to the Centralized Intake Office in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. You cannot pay online.

You also cannot pay online if you are applying under the Canadian Experience Class.

(Note: this section applies to Quebec-Haiti Humanitarian Sponsorship applications.)

1. You can pay your fees online

You will need:

  • PDF Reader software
  • a printer
  • a Visa®, MasterCard® or American Express® credit card, and
  • a valid email address.

When you are finished, you must print a receipt of payment and include it with your application.

Note: If you are completing an online application, the online payment service will allow you to pay after submitting your application. You do not need to go through the above steps.

2. You can pay fees at a financial institution in Canada

If you cannot or do not want to pay online, you must get an original receipt of payment form IMM 5401 so you can pay at a financial institution (such as a bank or Western Union). This form is not available online, so you must order an original receipt by mail.

You must include a copy of this receipt when you apply.

If you are applying at an office outside Canada

You can find information on fee payment methods at the website of the visa office (immigration applications) or the Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate (proof of citizenship applications) responsible for your area. Visa and consular offices cannot accept receipts for fees paid in Canada.

Note: Personal cheques are not accepted as payment.
