You can apply for a permanent resident card (PR card) if you:
- are in Canada
- are not a Canadian citizen
- have permanent resident status
- have not been asked by the Government of Canada to leave the country
If you’re a Canadian citizen, you can’t have (and don’t need) a PR card.
If you’re a permanent resident and become a citizen, you must give back your PR card at the citizenship ceremony.
