Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s annual Mathieu Da Costa Challenge is a fun way for young people to learn more about Canada’s cultural diversity.

The contest invites young Canadians between the ages of 9 and 18 to submit an original piece of writing (e.g. short story, poem, song, play, illustrated story, essay, etc.) or artwork (including computer generated artwork) celebrating the contributions made by Canadians of Aboriginal, African or other backgrounds to the building of Canada.

In this section of the site, you’ll find everything you need to help your kids take the Challenge.

  • Registration package: Includes a brochure, a poster and an entry form that you can print out.
  • Links to useful resources: Includes a list of websites that highlight the contributions of different ethnocultural groups to the development of Canada.

Join your child on an exploration of Canadian culture and diversity!
