Fact Sheet — Foreign Credentials Referral Office
Overview
The Foreign Credentials Referral Office (FCRO) offers information and services on the Canadian labour market and Canada’s credential assessment processes. The FCRO develops tools for employers and regulatory bodies to help them integrate internationally trained workers into the labour market. It also provides referral services to immigrants overseas and in Canada to help them apply their skills and credentials in Canada.
Tools for Employers
- The Employer’s Roadmap is a guide that helps employers assess and hire internationally trained workers. It provides information on Citizenship and Immigration Canada programs, and tools and resources for assessing credentials and qualifications.
- The online version of the Employer’s Roadmap is complemented by five short videos featuring employers sharing their experiences in hiring internationally trained workers, and how it has benefited their organization.
- The FCRO has also funded the development of sector-specific roadmaps, such as the Construction Sector Roadmap.
The International Qualifications Network (IQN) is a website that showcases innovative foreign qualifications assessment and recognition practices. Employers and other stakeholders can find the latest assessment ideas on the IQN website and use the success stories of others to advance their own qualifications processes.
Facts and Figures
- In collaboration with Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and the Alliance of Sector Councils, The FCRO delivered 40 workshops to employers across Canada to discuss the benefits of hiring internationally trained workers.
- The FCRO has funded a two-year research project to better understand the small and medium-sized enterprise sector’s existing and potential capacity as an employer of skilled immigrants.
- The FCRO has participated in over 20 key employers’ events, such as the Top 100 Employers, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting, and the Human Resources Professional Association annual conference.
