Statistics for present on December 1st measure the number of temporary residents with a valid document (i.e., a refugee claim, a work permit, study permit, temporary resident permit, or a visitor record) on December 1st of the observation year. This measure excludes temporary residents granted permanent resident status on or before the observation date and those whose document validity has expired or is not yet in effect. Temporary residents are grouped according to the principal reason for residing in Canada during the calendar year.
