Update to immigration fees and procedures – changes to certain temporary residence application processing fees

Date: February 3, 2014

Summary: To better manage processing costs, which have steadily risen over the years and have been subsidized by the Canadian taxpayer, Citizenship and Immigration Canada is implementing fee changes in a number of temporary resident lines of business. Effective February 6, 2014, regulatory changes will be implemented for the following temporary resident applications: temporary resident visas (TRVs), work permits (WPs), study permits (SPs), and extensions of authorization to remain in Canada.

The harmonization of the single entry visa (SEV) and multiple-entry visa (MEV) application fees will facilitate access to Canada for more applicants who are eligible. While CIC continues to promote the issuance of long-term MEVs, not all applicants will automatically receive a MEV. Whether an applicant is issued a SEV or a MEV remains at the discretion of the officer.
