Update to International Mobility Program instructions for employer-specific work permits with Labour Market Impact Assessment exemptions

Summary

Officers must be aware that work permit processing is no longer an isolated event. With the implementation of the employer compliance regime which includes employers submitting their offers of employment directly to IRCC using the Employer Portal the work permit application is but the second step in the employer compliance process.

Officers must be aware that actions taken at the time of work permit processing will affect IRCC’s ability to conduct inspections after work permit issuance.

Information on reviewing the offer of employment, how to search and possible work-arounds in GCMS have been added to these instructions.

All processing staff should be familiar with the instructions for processing employer-specific, LMIA-exempt work permit applications.
