Become a candidate – International Experience Canada

If you want to travel and work temporarily in Canada as part of International Experience Canada (IEC), your first step is to become a candidate in one or more IEC pools.

If you are eligible:

  • you will be placed in the pools for which you are eligible, along with other eligible candidates, and
  • if you receive an Invitation to Apply, you can then apply for a work permit.

Determine your eligibility

Use the online tool, Come to Canada, to see if you meet the criteria to get into an IEC pool or read about the eligibility criteria for IEC.

Submit your profile

If you are eligible, complete and submit your IEC profile online. There is no cost to complete and submit an IEC profile. You will need to create a MyCIC account to do this.

How the pools work

If you create an IEC profile and you are eligible, you will be put into one or more IEC pools of candidates. Find out what happens once you are in a pool.

Schedule: rounds of invitations

CIC will regularly issue invitations to candidates from the pool(s) so they can apply for a work permit. Check the schedule.

Invitations to Apply

If you get an Invitation to Apply from CIC, you will be able to apply for a work permit online. Make sure you have all your documents ready ahead of time.
