If you meet the requirements, you will be placed into one or more pools of IEC candidates. You will get a message in your MyCIC account that confirms you are in the pool(s).
Normally, you will be in the pool(s) for one year from the day you enter.
Your profile may expire sooner if:
- Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) removes all of the profiles from the pool(s), or
- you are no longer eligible for IEC.
CIC will regularly issue invitations to candidates from the IEC pools during the year. You can check the schedule to find out when the rounds of invitations for each country and category will start. You can submit an IEC profile at any time. As long as you submit your profile before the date of the last round of invitations for your country, you may receive an Invitation to Apply for a work permit.
Note: You must only submit one profile to the IEC pool(s). You can choose to submit your profile to any of the pools you are eligible for that are available to your country. For example, with your one profile, you could be eligible for both the Working Holiday pool and the Young Professionals pool.
CIC will randomly select Working Holiday candidates from the pool and invite them to apply. Completing an online IEC profile and entering the Working Holiday pool does not guarantee that you will get an Invitation to Apply for a work permit. Working holiday candidates may be in a pool for several months. Some candidates may not receive an Invitation to Apply before the season ends.
International Co-op (Internship) and Young Professionals
CIC will regularly invite candidates from the International Co-op (Internship) and Young Professionals pools to apply. If you complete an online IEC profile and enter the International Co-op (Internship) and Young Professionals pools, you will get an Invitation to Apply for a work permit, as long as there are spots available.
Get your supporting documents ready
CIC plans to regularly issue Invitations to Apply to candidates from the pools. Receiving an invitation to apply does not mean that you will automatically receive a work permit. To receive a work permit, you will have to:
- show proof of the information you gave us in your International Experience Canada (IEC) profile;
- provide additional information on your education, work history and background; and
- provide other potential supporting documents when requested.
If you are accepted into an IEC pool, you should start getting any supporting documents you may need for your application for a work permit. Some documents may take several months to get. You could get an Invitation to Apply at any time, and you will have limited time to submit your work permit application and all requested documents.
