If you can’t book an appointment by the deadline on your biometric instruction letter, there may be measures in place to help you.

If your biometrics collection site is not open due to COVID-19, there are temporary measures in place for biometrics.

Designated Service Canada offices

Service Canada offices have resumed biometrics collection services for permanent residence applicants who need to give biometrics and haven’t given them within the last 10 years.

You can make your appointment to give biometrics using the eServiceCanada Appointment Booking Tool. Don’t go to a Service Canada office unless you have a scheduled appointment.

Many VACs and ASCs have reopened.

Before you go:

You may need to wear a mask and follow other health and safety rules—be prepared.
Check the VAC or ASC website to make sure it’s open.

You can’t enter an ASC facility if any of the following apply:

you have any symptom of COVID-19, including
- recently developed cough
- fever
- difficulty breathing
- new loss of smell or taste
- fatigue
- muscle aches
- headache
- congestion
- sore throat
- vomiting
you’ve been in close contact with anyone known to have COVID-19 in the past 14 days
- This applies to you if you were within 6 feet for 15 minutes or longer.
- This doesn’t apply to you if you’re
  - fully vaccinated
  - a health care worker, and you always wear an N95 respirator and proper personal protective equipment (PPE) or equivalent when in contact with COVID-19-positive people
you’ve returned from domestic air, international air or cruise ship travel in the past 10 days
- This doesn’t apply to you if you’re fully vaccinated.
you’ve been told to self-quarantine or self-isolate by a health care provider, public health official or government entity within the last 14 days

When you get to the facility

don’t enter more than 15 minutes before your appointment time
wear a facial covering that covers both your mouth and nose at all times
- If you don’t have a facial covering, you can either
  - ask US Citizenship and Immigration Services to give you one
  - reschedule your appointment for another time
enter the facility alone, without friends or family members
- Interpreters, attorneys and those providing assistance for people with disabilities are allowed.
use the hand sanitizer at the entryway
follow social distancing guidelines and pay close attention to all signs, guidance and physical barriers
you may also have to answer health-screening questions before entering the facility

Check the ASC’s website on the day of your appointment to make sure it’s open. You’re encouraged to bring your own black- or blue-ink pens.
